Ensuring Access to Education for Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC)
The aim of this thematic group is to develop a more systematic approach to ensure the access of all the OVC to basic education and their retention in school. To ensure effective access to education for OVC, the following questions are developed.
- How are orphans and vulnerable children defined?
- How can numbers of OVC can be estimated and projected?
- What factors might influence a child’s access to schooling?
- What are the constraints within the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology that have been experienced in ensuring access to education for OVC?
- What policies and actions could be considered in order to enhance access to education of OVC?
- What support and input could other stakeholders provide?
- How does the AIDS epidemic exacerbate existing constraints on access to education of OVC?
