Bangkok, Thailand,  2 - 10 December, 2013

Following the success of the 2nd School Health & Nutrition (SHN) Training Course for government, United Nations and civil society staff in the Asian region earlier in 2013, Partnership for Child Development (PCD), Mahidol University and the Japan Consortium for Global School Health Research with support from theWorld Bank and the Sapparo Cancer Seminar Foundation co-organised the 3rd Asia SHN Training Course between 3-10 December 2013.

Hosted by Mahidol University in Bangkok, Thailand, the course focused on the crucial topic of malnutrition; looking at the double burden of stunting and wasting, and under-nutrition among children as well as the growing issue of child obesity in Asia. Expert lectures and workshops on these topics were given by Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health, PCD and other SHN practitioners.

The course was then followed by the first Asian School Health Symposium on December 11, which brought together school health professionals and policy makers to issue an international declaration which highlights key issues for the future of school health in the region.
