Course participants on the Ghana course field visit.jpgFollowing the success of the school health and nutrition (SHN) and HIV prevention programmes course in Kilifi, Kenya last year, the Partnership for Child Development and partners co-organised the 9th African SHN Course between 10 - 20 June.

Hosted by the Ghanaian Government, over 50 attendees including representatives from ministries of health, education, agriculture and social development from 12 African countries gathered to focus on best practice in SHN interventions.

Course Issue in Focus

Every year the course focuses on a particular SHN issue, this year the selected Issue in Focus was that of Nutrition in the School-Age Child and Adolescents. For ten days attendees engaged in both classroom and field based learning in which exchange of best practice and regional knowledge and experience was prioritised.

Delegates were able to attend a mixture of hands-on action planning workshops, expertly-facilitated lectures on a range of school health and nutrition topics including the key topic of Nutrition and participated in field-based learning through the Ghanaian context.

The course was co-jointly organised by PCD, the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research and the Eastern and Southern Africa Centre of International Parasite Control.
